Access to Wellness

Providing free mental health therapy to qualified individuals

In the Philippines, mental health services are costly, and mental health issues are often stigmatized and misunderstood. To address this challenge, this program offers free mental health services to eligible recipients.

Bringing accessible and compassionate mental health care to underserved communities in the Philippines.

Summary

Access to Wellness is a nationwide initiative aimed at addressing the mental health crisis in the Philippines. By offering a blend of remote and in-person mental health therapy services, the program seeks to break down barriers to mental health care, especially for vulnerable communities and those with disabilities. We provide comprehensive support, ensuring mental health care is accessible to all, regardless of location.

Problem Overview

Mental health issues are prevalent in the Philippines, affecting millions. With only 3-5% of the national health budget allocated to mental health and just 2-3 mental health professionals per 100,000 people, many Filipinos—especially those in remote or disadvantaged areas—lack access to necessary care. Economic hardships, stigma, and the lack of localized mental health facilities further exacerbate the problem. For persons with disabilities, the challenges are even greater, with 14% affected by mental health conditions (Mental Health Care in the Philippines, January 2024).

Program Description

Access to Wellness bridges the mental health care gap through a combination of remote and in-person therapy services. By leveraging technology, we provide teletherapy options—video, phone, and chat-based therapy—ensuring that individuals in remote areas can still access quality mental health care. For those who prefer or require in-person care, we are expanding our network of therapy centers in strategic locations across the country.

The program specifically caters to the needs of persons with disabilities, recognizing the unique challenges they face in accessing mental health support. Our services are designed to be inclusive, sensitive to local contexts, and adaptable to the individual’s needs.

Goals and Challenges

Goals:

  • Increase access to mental health care services across urban and rural areas.

  • Provide tailored mental health support to persons with disabilities, helping them navigate their specific challenges.

  • Establish a sustainable, accessible network of both remote and in-person mental health services.

Challenges:

  • Ensuring consistent, reliable internet access in remote areas for teletherapy.

  • Overcoming societal stigma surrounding mental health and disability.

  • Scaling the program to meet growing demand while maintaining high-quality care.
